Fact-Checking Policy

At PopCultureDaily.co.uk, we know that our readers trust us to get the story right. Whether we’re reporting a streaming release date, a casting rumour, or a celebrity statement, we take our responsibility to verify every claim before publication extremely seriously. Our fact-checking process is built on a clear hierarchy of reliable sources, rigorous checks, and a commitment to transparency. This policy outlines exactly what we verify and how we do it.

What we verify before publication

Our editorial team reviews a wide range of claims and details before any story goes live. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Release dates for films, television series, streaming premieres, music albums, and digital content
  • Cast information including confirmed roles, attachments, and departures
  • Music releases such as album tracklists, single drops, and label announcements
  • Streaming availability — which platform, territory, and date a title is available
  • Celebrity statements quoted directly from verified interviews, press releases, or official social media accounts
  • Legal disputes involving public figures, studios, or creators, including court filings and settlements
  • Allegations of misconduct, discrimination, or other serious matters — these are reviewed with the utmost care
  • Brand partnerships and endorsement deals between talent and companies
  • Financial claims such as box office figures, salary reports, or investment sums
  • Health claims made by or about public figures, particularly when they could cause alarm or misinformation
  • Stories involving minors — we apply additional caution and follow our Safeguarding Minors Policy
  • Privacy and safety concerns — any content that could put an individual at risk is assessed by senior editors

Our source hierarchy

We rank sources by reliability and always aim to cite the strongest available evidence. Our preferred sources are, in order:

  • Official announcements from studios, broadcasters, labels, and platforms
  • Verified public social media posts from artists, actors, and their official representatives
  • Event organisers and festival line-ups
  • Public records and court documents
  • Direct interviews conducted by our own journalists or by reputable peers
  • First-hand reviews and on-the-ground reporting from our team

For a full breakdown of how we evaluate sources, please see our Sources & Standards page.

Rumours and speculation

We cover the entertainment industry, which is full of rumours. Whenever we report on speculation, it is clearly labelled as such. We never present unconfirmed gossip as fact. Phrases like “according to reports”, “rumoured to be”, or “sources suggest” are used explicitly, and we always provide context about the credibility of the claim. If a rumour is unverified but of significant public interest, we explain why and what we know.

Anonymous sourcing

We avoid anonymous sources wherever possible. In rare cases where a source requires anonymity — for example, to protect their safety or job — we only use the information if it is essential to the story and if it can be independently verified by a second corroborating source. Our Editorial Policy provides further detail on this practice.

Review of sensitive articles

Daniel Mercer, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, personally reviews any story that touches on legal disputes, allegations, health claims, minors, or privacy concerns. He also oversees all corrections and source disputes. You can reach him directly at daniel.mercer@popculturedaily.co.uk.

Reader reports and corrections

If you spot an error in one of our stories, please email us at factcheck@popculturedaily.co.uk. We investigate every report and, if a mistake is confirmed, we correct it promptly and transparently. Our full approach to amendments is set out in our Corrections Policy.

Accountability and transparency

We are committed to being open about how we work. Our editorial team is listed on the Our Team page, and our broader standards are outlined in the Editorial Policy. If you have a question about how we verified a specific story, you are welcome to contact us.
